Naulas, the traditional water harvesting systems in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India, are not only a marvel of ingenious engineering but also hold deep historical and cultural significance. These stone-lined tanks have served as vital infrastructure for water management in the hilly terrain, addressing water scarcity challenges and providing a reliable water supply to communities for centuries.
Along with Kriti Jalihal and Purva Bhandari, we mapped these Naulas across the region understanding the architecture, interrelationships it formed between people and the current conditions.
